And just like that...

And just like that...I’m a mom! Yeah, right. Like it was really that quick and breezy. Anyone who has come into contact with me, or has followed me on social media for the past 10 months knows that I was not the biggest fan of being pregnant (to put it mildly). As someone who is used to being very active, being physically limited was intensely challenging for me. Gaining 30ish pounds and feeling heavy and “grounded” did not help in this department. BUT, BUT--

He is here! Our little love-boy. And he’s amazing. Absolutely adorable, and such a little nugget. And we just adore him. I never knew this sort of love before, and I am deeply grateful to know it now. I was in labor for 24 hours. TWENTY-FOUR-FREAKING-HOURS. And let me tell you; while it was QUITE the journey, and one that I’m honestly glad I had the opportunity to experience , it was very, very hard. Pushing a 7lb 8oz human out of your narrow birth canal is not for the faint of heart. I read obsessively about pregnancy and birth throughout the last 10 months, but nothing can really prepare you for the actual experience. Women are dang HEROES, man. I was also not prepared for the post-partum recovery. It’s been a lot more challenging than I anticipated, but, I will say that I am overjoyed to have been able to start going for some long walks with my husband and son the past couple of days. It feels SO good to be gaining my mobility back (and to carry about 20 fewer pounds than 8 days ago!)

I’ve also been getting back into my yoga practice, which is an absolute must for rebuilding pelvic floor stability, and stretching my poor achy back, hips, and hamstrings. And of course, the deep breathing and moving meditation is SO necessary for my sleep-deprived and stressed new mom brain.

So, now what? Well, my plan is to take about a month more off from training to really sink into this new role, and to continue taking care of our little family. I also need to allow my body to continue to recover, but am hoping to be able to start running and lifting again soon- whatever that means. I am already in the process of choosing my next half-marathon. And from a professional standpoint, I’ve got some new plans in the works. One of which I can share here: this whole experience has deepened my passion for working with the specific needs of women, and to that end, I am working on becoming certified as a women’s fitness specialist. There are not enough fitness resources specifically meant to help women through the pre-and-post natal journey, and I’d like to be able to assist in these areas. I’m super excited to add this training to my credentials and knowledge base.

So, whether you are a client, friend, follower, or some combination of the three, let’s please keep in touch over the next month; feel free to drop me a line and let me know what you’re up to, and I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Love & light.
